The fort remains today one of the main attractions in Pt. Defiance Park housing a small museum and staffed with reinactors. Other photo is taken from inside the fort of one of the bastions. Each is labeled along the bottom edge of the photo in white ink. Date estimate based on vehicles visible parked outside of Ft. in aerial photo. Inside is interesting letter from General Zachary Taylor's army near Matamoros on the Texas-Mexican boundary date April 12, telling of General Ampudia's ultimatum to Taylor and results of US patrols. (War begins Apr. 24). Other contents includes Louisiana legilature's resolution on claims against Mexico, comment on divisions in Democrat party, Official US treasurer's statement, Many ads for goods, services, rail & ship postings, and announcement of opening of Texas Agency for persons interested in business or settlement in Texas. 4 pp. 18X23 3/4 inches.
